Catherine Gill

Catherine Gill 86, of Amasa, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017 at Aspirus Hospital in Iron River. Catherine was born Nov. 9, 1930 in Crystal Falls, MI, daughter of the late Eino and Mary (Karnack) Nelson. She has been a lifelong resident of this area and was a 1948 graduate of Crystal Falls High School. Catherine married Harold Gill on July 7, 1948 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal Falls. Together they made their home in Amasa and raised five children. The couple celebrated 69 years of marriage together in July. Catherine and Harold operated the North Forty Restaurant in Amasa for nine years. She also worked as the cook for the Iron County Jail and served as the Hematite Twp. Treasurer for several years. Catherine loved vegetable and flower gardening She enjoyed traveling and sight seeing. Most of all she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister to her family. Catherine is survived by her husband, Harold; children, Candy Soderena of Amasa, Jim (Kathy) Gill of Crystal Falls, Joe Gill of Gaastra, Michael (Lisa Powell) Gill of Iron River and Tammy (Al) Jaeger of Crystal Falls; grandchildren, Julie Borden, Bob (Kim) Gill, Ian (Sara) Gill, Courtney (Spencer) Doty, Gina Kosmopoulos, Nikos Kosmopoulos, Katie (Tyler) Dobson, Brian Gill, Abbey Menghini, Michael (Emma) Gill, Casey (Charlie Partin) Gill, Tyler (Esra) Gill, Lindsey(Jeremy Alquist) Jaeger and Ronnie Jaeger; Twenty three great grandchildren and two great great grandchilden. She is also survived by her brothers, Jules (Shirley) Nelson of Grafton, WI, Charlie (Virginia) Nelson of Crystal Falls and Leslie Nelson of Crystal Falls; many nieces and nephews. Catherine was preceded in death by an infant brother, Arthur and her son in law, Butch Soderena. Visitation will be on Friday, October 27th from 9:00-11:00am at the Nash Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Crystal Falls. Memorial services will follow at 11:00am Friday at the funeral home. Rev. Micheal Laakko will officiate.
