Clarence Howard Cain

Clarence Howard Cain, 80, of Iron River, MI passed away from complications of dementia on Saturday, December 26th, 2020 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility. Clarence was born April 9th, 1940 in Stambaugh, MI to Howard and Greeba (nee Chrisian) Cain. He attended Stambaugh school until 9th grade when his family moved to Racine, WI. He graduated from William Horlick High School in 1959, where he met his wife, Shirley (nee Kupper) Cain. They married on November 26th, 1960 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Thanksgiving with family. Clarence was a Boy Scout leader and worked for Racine Hydraulics until he and his wife Shirley and their three children moved back to Iron River, MI in 1974. They moved to his Great Grandfather's homestead on the Brule River. They owned and operated a dairy farm until 1988. He was a “jack of all trades”, running a machine shop and a cedar shingle mill until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. He took pride in his large, flourishing vegetable gardens and loved time spent cutting his many acres of grass. His family was blessed with Clarence’s many musical talents, such as piano, harmonica, banjo and accordion. A talent held by few, he played everything only by ear. Clarence spent much of his time on the Brule River hunting and fishing. Clarence is survived by his wife, Shirley. Their children: Kathy (Steve) Holm, Karen (Ernie) Schmidt and Chris (Joyce) Cain and grandchildren: Sara (Rob) Starr, Becky (Adam) Ahola, Ashley Schmidt, Jessie (Gary) Leinon, Joe (Kendra) Schmidt, Matt (Hailey) Schmidt and Tony Starr and great grandchildren: Brody, Noah and Eden Starr, Mason and Reese Ahola and Jackson and Grayson Leinon. His sister in law: Pauline Cain, one nephew and two nieces and their children. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Keith Cain. The family would like to thank the staff at the Iron County Medical Care Facility during Clarence’s short stay. A heartfelt thank you to Heather C. for her time spent with him during our visits. She went above and beyond from him and us. We are FOREVER grateful for her kindness!
