Donald Aeschliman

Donald Aeschliman, 92, of Crystal Falls, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls. He was born on February 29, 1924 in Amasa, Michigan, son of the late Lewis and Annie (Maringo) Aeschliman. He attended school in Crystal Falls, graduating from Crystal Falls High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1943, and served as a paratrooper during WWII, being Honorably discharged in 1946. Five of the Aeschliman brothers from Crystal Falls served in WWII at the same time. Don went on to attend the University of Michigan, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. Don then went to work for General Motors as an Engineer, until his retirement. Don married Sharon McClain in Wayne, Michigan, on July 2, 1965 and she preceded him in death in 1982. Don was a former member of the VFW and the Guardian Angels Catholic Church. Don enjoyed golf and never turned down an invitation to golf with friends and relatives at the Crystal Falls golf course. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon, his parents, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Elaine and Harrison Smith, Lewis Aeschliman, Lenore and Edmund Whear, Easter and George Mackin, Ralph and Mildred Aeschliman, Sal and Kit Aeschliman, Idell and Martin Morgan, Robert Aeschliman, James Aeschliman, Audrey and Edward Gagan, Jean Lou and Robert Shemky and Nancy and John Fitzgerald, nieces Mari Shemky, Mary Katherine Aeschliman, Jean Erickson and Nancy Gagan and nephews, Johnny Aeschliman, Lowell Whear, and James Gagan. Don is survived by his nieces and nephews and their children. He was a kind uncle to many and will be missed. There will be a Graveside Service on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 11:30 am at the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls. Fr. Jose Maramattam will officiate. The Eastside Veterans Council will conduct Full Military Honors. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Barbara Aeschliman Lind and the staff at the Medicare Memory Unit for all of the wonderful care they provided for Don.
