Marland E. "Marty" Martwick

Marland E. “Marty” Martwick, 89, of Crystal Falls, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility. He was born February 14, 1928 in Tomahawk, WI, son of the late Walter and Ellen (Peelman) Martwick. Marty graduated from high school in Tomahawk and served his country in the United States Navy. He married Barbara Barnhouse on October 7, 1950 in Chicago, IL and she preceded him in death in 2007. Marty was employed as a salesman for the local Crystal Falls Chevrolet dealership for several years. He then took a position as the power plant operator with the City of Crystal Falls which he kept until his retirement in 1993. In his earlier years, Marty enjoyed bowling. He loved listening to music, playing his guitar and singing old country western songs. Marty was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and spending time at camp. He is survived by a son, Thomas (Carol) Martwick of New Berlin, WI; three daughters, Julie (Gerard) Phillips of Lake Bluff, IL, Cathy (Murl) Spence of Eagle River, WI and Janet (Richard “Archie”) Smithson of Crystal Falls; a daughter-in-law, Alice Martwick; 11 grandchildren, Kerstin Westcott, Ketti (Dave) Bayles, Kallie Westcott, Erik Martwick, Christopher Bean (fiance, Lori), Alex Phillips (Fiance, Monica), Tim (Amy) Phillips, Andrew (Bea) Phillips, David (Amanda) Martwick, Michael (Krystal) Martwick and Brian (Jill) Hunter; three great grandchildren with a great grandson on the way; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Marty was preceded in death by a son, Jim Martwick; a brother, Roger Martwick; and two sisters, Muriel Kuehling and Leona “Lee” Leonard. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 20 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Rev. Cheryl Spicer will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iron County Cancer Unit.
