Mary Lahna

Mary A. Lahna, 65 of Crystal Falls, passed away on Sunday November 6, 2011 at Marquette General Hospital. She was born on November 1, 1946 in Crystal Falls, daughter of Joseph John and the late Evelyn Wave (Schindler) Smokevitch. She attended school in Crystal Falls, graduating from Crystal Falls High School. She went on to attend the Cradle Infant Nursing School in Evanston, Illinois. Mary worked at a clinic where young unmarried mothers would go to have children that were to be adopted. She then opened the Lahna Family Daycare in Crystal Falls which she owned and operated for many years. She loved children. While her children where in school she served on the Forest Park PTO. She was a member of the Guardian Angels Catholic Church where she served on the parish council, was a CCD teacher and served as an usher. She was on the Crystal Falls City Planning Comission and worked on the committee to raise funds for playground equipment at Logan Park. She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Smokevitch. Mary is survived by her father, Joseph Smokevitch of Crystal Falls; children, James Lahna of Crystal Falls, William (Colleen) Lahna of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, and Trista (Ralph) Pflanz of Algonquin, Illinois; brothers, Albert (Marilyn) Smokevitch of Crystal Falls and Michael (Jeannine) Smokevitch of Crystal Falls; sisters, Carol (Thomas) Rauch of Dousman, WI, and Jeanne (Raymond) Brown of Crystal Falls; grandchildren, Ashley Pflanz, Sorcha and Maija Lahna Friends may call from 4:00pm until 7:00pm Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 11:00am at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls. Fr. Gregory Veneklase will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Crystal Falls. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in her memory.
