Pauline Martin

CRYSTAL FALLS - Pauline Helen Martin, 86, of Crystal Falls, died on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette. She was born on Feb. 19, 1923, in Crystal Falls, daughter of the late Joel and Anna (Korkela) Anderson. Pauline was a resident of Crystal Falls for most of her life. She graduated from Crystal Falls High School in 1941. She married Robert Martin on May 30, 1942, in Crystal Falls. He preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 1992. Pauline owned and operated Martin's Grocery Store along with her husband from 1958 until retiring in 1974. She was a life member and trustee of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the secretary for the Crystal Falls Senior Center, and a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul. Pauline enjoyed painting, gardening, sewing and playing cards. Her family was the center of her life and she loved them all very much. Pauline is survived by two sons, Bob (Skip) Martin of Coloma, Wis. and Don Martin of Green Bay, Wis.; a son in-law, Glen Westin of Mokena, Ill.; sisters in-law, Theresa and Ruth Anderson; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and her best friend, Gerri Spisak of Crystal Falls. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Anne Westin; a daughter in-law, Deborah Martin; brothers, Reino, Arne, Bill, Joel, and twin brother, Paul Anderson; and sisters, Elizabeth Lane, Lillian Willets, Gertrude Langrill, Vienna Gallmore, Hilma Handell and infant sister, Silvia. Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church in Crystal Falls. There will be a VFW Auxiliary Service held at 10:45 a.m. Friday. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Pastor Bonny Kinnunen will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Crystal Falls. Pauline's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the Dickinson County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
