Ruby J. Takala

Ruby Takala, 89, of Crystal Falls, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Iron County Medical Care Facility. Ruby was born march 11, 1928 in Crystal Falls, daughter of the late John and Mary (Stebic) Zie. She was raised in the Dunn Mine Location near Alpha and has been a lifelong resident of the Crystal Falls area. Ruby was a proud 1946 graduate of Alpha High School. She married Mathew Takala at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Alpha in October 1950. During their 52 years together they raised four children. Ruby was a member of the Ladies Guild of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Alpha. Upon St. Edward’s closing she joined Guardian Angels Church in Crystal Falls. She was also a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Ruby was very social and active in many community events in Crystal Falls and Alpha. She loved vegetable and flower gardening around her home, and she was an excellent cook. Her recipes are shared with many. She also enjoyed playing cards, watching Detroit Tiger baseball on TV and listening to Trojan sports on the radio. Ruby is survived by her children, Gregory (Terri) Takala, of Crystal Falls, David (Anne) Takala of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, Mary (Rob) Dalpra of Crystal Falls and Joseph Takala of Crystal Falls; a brother Robert (Mary) of Santa Rosa, California; a sister Dorothy Gondek of Menominee; seven grandchildren; Adam, Alexander and John Takala, Kamilla and Alisa Takala, Connor and Christopher Dalpra; and also several nieces and nephews. She was a kind, compassionate mother and grandmother who was devoted to her family. She will be sadly missed by all. Visitation will be on Friday, April 7, from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at the Nash Funeral Home of Crystal Falls. VFW auxiliary memorial honors will be accorded at 10:00am Friday at the funeral home and memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Guardian Angles Church in Crystal Falls, Fr. Daniel Malone will offer the Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be in Evergreen memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the St.Vincent DePaul Society of Crystal Falls, 136 Superior Ave. Crystal Falls, MI 49920.
