Steve Furmanski

Steve “Kook-eye” Furmanski, 53 of Crystal Falls, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2011 at his home. He was born on September 20, 1957 in Crystal Falls, son of Ida (Schiavo) and the late Raymond Furmanski. He attended the Crystal Falls schools, graduating from Forest Park High School in 1975. He was a lifelong resident of Crystal Falls. He married Shellie Aho on June 7, 1980 at the United Lutheran Church in Crystal Falls. Steve worked as the Meat Manager at Jubilee Foods for many years. He was a member of the United Lutheran Church. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening and throwing horseshoes. He was the founder and the initiator of the local Fisheree. He was a great father, who loved spending time with his daughters. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Furmanski, and a brother in-law, Robert Westcott. Steve is survived by his wife of nearly 31 years, Shellie Furmanski of Crystal Falls; daughters, Jenna Furmanski of Escanaba, and Hannah Furmanski at home; his mother, Ida Nelson of Crystal Falls; brothers, Raymond (Patsy) Furmanski of Daggett, MI and Duane (Terri)Furmanski of Eden Prairie, MN; sister, Patricia Westcott of Crystal Falls; mother in-law and father in-law, Dulcie and Jerry Aho of Crystal Falls; sister in-law, Sally (Will) Ross of Crystal Falls; brother in-law, Bill Hautala (Jeanelle Maki); and many nieces, nephews and cousins Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00pm to7:00pm at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00am at the United Lutheran Church in Crystal Falls. Rev. Michael Laakko will officiate, and Pastor Cheryl Spicer will co-officiate. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken "Heet" West, Bill "Buzzy" Galbraith, Mike "Streb" Schiavo, Tommy Westcott, George Hilberg, Gary "Shef" Hilberg, Rich "Archie" Smithson and Ray "Niemers" Niemi. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Horst, Duane Furmanski, Ray Furmanski, Will Ross and Bill Hautala.
