George “Bud” Premo, 91, of Alpha, MI, died Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the Aspirus Hospital in Iron River, MI. He was born January 24, 1925 in Iron River, son of the late Walter and Clara (Nolingberg) Premo. George "Bud" was a lifelong resident of the area and attended the Iron River High School class of 1943 before entering the service. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. After returning from the service, Bud graduated from Michigan Tech with a B.S. degree in civil engineering. He married Dorothy “Dorie” Nipert on January 29, 1955 in Ontonagon, MI. Bud had worked for the State of Michigan, Department of Transportation, for 36 years, retiring in 1984. Bud was a life member of the American Legion and a member of the VFW. He was also a former member of the Crystal Falls Rotary Club. He loved to trout fish, hunt, and golf. Bud was an excellent skier and was a member of the National Ski Patrol. He was an avid card player and enjoyed cribbage, bridge and poker. Bud's life always revolved around his family; taking family trips, skiing, camping and many other family activities. Bud is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dorie; three children, Chris (John) Archocosky of Chicaugon Lake, Mark (Lisa) Premo of Denver, and Michael (Joey) Premo of Iron Mountain; a sister, Carol Lundin of Iron Mountain; eight grandchildren, Michael (Olivia) Archocosky, Allison (Dan) Horn, Meghan (Mark) Premo-Hopkins, Grant (Brooke) Premo, Kelsey (Brett) Jones, Caitlin (William) Edwards, Sarah Premo and Quinn Premo; 11 great grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob, Luke, Edison, Sam, Jane, Will, Evie, Silas, Shepherd, and Ida. He is also survived by a niece, a nephew, and several cousins. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 3, 2016 from 10:00am-12:00 pm at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls, MI. The Eastside Veterans will do a Pass-in-Review at 11:45 am. A Celebration of Life will follow at noon Monday at the Nash Funeral Home. Deacon Teena Maki will officiate. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Iron County Medical Care Facility and Iron River Aspirus Hospital for the wonderful care Bud received.
