AMASA - Gerald "Jerry" Weith, 68, of Amasa, died on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on Sept. 1, 1941, in Des Plaines, Ill., son of the late Clarence and Evelyn (Stade) Weith. Upon graduating from high school he enlisted in the United States Army in 1958, and was honorably discharged in 1961. Jerry married Susan Ann Figolah on Oct. 1, 1985, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. He was an operating engineer with the Local 150 for Meyer Material in McHenry, Ill. for more than 30 years, retiring in 2003. He has resided at Deer Lake for the past 19 years, coming from Hainesville, Ill. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Amasa. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son Danny and his family. He loved N.H.R.A Drag racing, and was a professional driver in his earlier years. Jerry is survived by his wife, Susan Weith of Amasa; sons, Dan Weith of Amasa and John (Fran) Weith of Illinois; daughters, Karen (Bill) Nielson of Illinois, Beth (Bob) Meckley of Illinois, and Barb (Hap) Peterson of Iowa; brothers, George (Cindy) Weith of Illinois, Jack (Betty) Weith of Arkansas, and Jim (Jan) Weith of Arkansas; sister, Judy (Wayne) Wagner of Florida; half-sister, Georgia Clare (Kevin) Baldwin of Illinois; and several grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the Christ United Methodist Church in Crystal Falls. The funeral service will follow Thursday at 12 noon at the church. Rev. Steve Rhoades will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network online at www.pancan.com Condolences may be expressed to the family of Gerald "Jerry" Weith online at www.ernashfuneralhomes.com The family has entrusted the Nash Funeral Home of Crystal Falls with the funeral arrangements.
