Harley W. Davis

May 11, 1933 - January 18, 2017

Harley W. Davis, 83, of Alpha, MI, died Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at his home. He was born May 11, 1933 in Crystal Falls, son of the late Anthony and Stella (Thompson) Davis. Harley was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War serving with the 18th Engineer Battalion. He married Frances Miller on June 10, 1958 at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls. She preceded him in death in 1991. Harley worked as a self employed logger for many years and owned and operated several saw mills during that time. He then went to work for Amerigas as a truck driver and delivered gas to area residents for over 25 years. Harley was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2891, a member of the American Legion Post 87 and served on the Alpha/Mastodon Fire Department from 1974-92, holding the position of Fire Chief from 1976-79. He had a love for music was a talented and well known musician in the area. Harley played in several bands including The Red Devils and Harley & The Country Boys and was known in the musical circle as “The Legend”. His humor and wisdom will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Harley is survived by three children, Harley (Margaret) Davis of Wisconsin, Margie Heimerl of Crystal Falls and Jay (Jessica) Davis of Kingsford; a brother, Gene (Norma) Davis of Hoyt Lakes, MN; a sister, Nancy (Ray) Farrell of Crystal Falls; grandchildren, Justin (Jill) Davis, Joseph Heimerl, Camille Davis, Tony Heimerl, Schuyler Davis, and Lora and Jacen Davis; great grandchildren, Delilah, Brailyn & Christian; and a special friend, Roger Grandahl. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by many good friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 20 from 11:00 am-12:45 pm at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. The Eastside Veterans Council and the Alpha Fire Department will do a Pass-in-Review at 12:45 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm with Fr. Raymond Valerio officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
