James E. O'Brien, 86, of Amasa, MI died Monday, June 11, 2012 at the Northstar Health Care System in Iron River, MI. He was born January 2, 1926 in Amasa, son of the late Allen and Tina Marie (Sundquist) Needham. He lived in Kingsford for many years and attended Breitung Township Schools. He was a veteran of WWII and served as a paratrooper. Jim lived in the Chicago area for many years and worked as a carpenter for the local union. After retiring, he moved back to Crystal Falls in 1981. He recently moved to Amasa to be closer to family. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter, taking many big bucks over the years. He is survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins in the area. He was preceded in death by one sister, Faye Finnegan and one brother, Clarence Needham. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 2, 2012 from 10am until 11am at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Amasa. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, July 2, 2012 at the church. Rev. Kevin Kaiser will officiate. Burial will be in the Amasa cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Eastside Veterans.
