Margaret Mary Smithson

Margaret Mary Smithson, 91, of Alpha, MI passed away Saturday, October 3, 2020, at Iron County Medical Care Facility. She was born May 8, 1929, in Crystal Falls, MI, the daughter of Miklos and Irene (Novak) LaBay. Margaret was a 1948 graduate of Crystal Falls High School. She is a life long resident of Alpha, MI. Margaret belonged to St. Edwards Catholic Church in Alpha and Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls. Margaret was employed by Forest Park Schools as an assistant cook until her retirement in 1993. She belonged to the women's VFW Auxiliary. Margaret enjoyed spending time at the cottage on Stager Lake with her family. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Randy) Bjork of Gladstone, MI and her son Richard (Janet) Smithson of Crystal falls, MI; 3 grandchildren: Andrew (Misti) Bjork, Nathan (Becky) Bjork and Brian (Jill) Hunter; 7 great-grandchildren: Gabe, Corinne, Ethan, Katelyn, Ella, Adeline and Drew; her sister-in-law, Rita (Smithson) Pozza; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell on October 3, 2004; grandson, Justin Bjork; and siblings Rose Chiesa, Edward LaBay, Irene Chincinski, Mary Trojan, Mike LaBay and Ernest LaBay. A funeral mass will be held for Margaret at a later date at Guardian Angels Catholic Church with Father Daniel Malone officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
