Ronald Dean Franks

Ronald Dean Franks, 72, of Crystal Falls, Mi, passed away on March 19, 2022, at the VA Hospital in Iron Mountain MI. He was born on May 7, 1949, in Hicksville, Ohio, son of the late Forest and Mabele ( Kieffer) Franks. He graduated from Stryker High School in 1967, never missing a day in his entire school career. Ron served his country in the U.S. Navy. He worked as an electrician for Spike Electric and owned “Just Friends,” a restaurant in Defiance, Ohio, before coming to Crystal Falls, working at Jubilee as the night manager. Ron is survived by his sons, Dustin and Ryan Franks; his daughter, Lisa Franks; grandson, Oliver; nephews, Timothy (Dawn) Schelling, and Brent (Lori) Schelling; niece, Angie Walker; 7 great-nieces & nephews; and 26 great-great nieces & nephews Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Elizabethe (Kieffer), and sister, Mary Lee Luke (Robert). Ron was well known around the community – early days fishing as often as possible until his sight was gone. More recent years you would see him walking with his walker and safety vest to the Family Dollar, Crystal Fresh Market, St. Vincent De Paul’s, or the Covantage Credit Union. He leaves behind many friends in this community that he loved as “family”. Memorials may be given to the Crystal Falls Community Garden, as gardening was his passion! Thank you, Linda Maki, for all you help in the garden. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the medical team at the Iron Mountain VA CLC and the many years of care from the Arms of Angels and the caregivers that worked closely with Ron so he could remain at home despite being blind and disabled. Visitation will take place on Friday, April 1, 2022, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls, MI. Pastor Jason Liebenow will officiate.
