Alexandra "Alex" LaChapelle

Alexandra "Alex" LaChapelle, 22 of Crystal Falls, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2014. She was born on January 20, 1992 daughter of Nick and the late Janine (Bates) LaChapelle. She attended the Crystal Falls schools, graduating from Forest Park High School in 2010. She went on to attend Bay de Noc Community College and was in her fourth year. She was to attend Northern Michigan University in the fall, majoring in Criminal Justice. Alex worked as a Bartender at the Infield Bar, and as a Corrections Officer at the Iron County Sheriff’s Office. She was a lifelong resident of Crystal Falls, and a member of the Guardian Angels Catholic Church. She was an extreme sports junky, especially extreme kayaking. Alex loved dirt biking and snowmobiling, and was the only girl allowed on a snowmobile ride with all guys including her Dad and Uncle Bryan, because she could not only keep up, but was faster than most. She enjoyed all the snow sports, especially snowboarding. At one time or another Alex tried and excelled at any and all sports out there. She was a wonderful Auntie to her 2 special nieces, and was always there for not only them, but for all of her family and friends. Alex is survived by her parents, Nick and Jean LaChapelle of Crystal Falls; her brother, Colton LaChapelle of Crystal Falls; her sister, Meaghan (Chris Haker) LaChapelle of Florence; nieces, Alexis and Elizabeth Hamilton; her Paternal grandmother, Dorothy LaChapelle of Crystal Falls; Maternal grandparents, Vern and Wilma Bates of Crystal Falls; her Aunts and Uncles, Paul (Connie) LaChapelle, Bryan (Diane) LaChapelle, Pamela (Fred) Coburn, Jeffrey (Rebecca) LaChapelle, Larry Bates, Tom Bates, Nancy Gaasbeck, Cindy Davis, Pete Gaasbeck, Bonnie Nakayama, Jane and Steve Ross; special friend, Travis Fittante; step-grandparents, Helen and Andrew Meyers; her dog, Klutch; she is further survived by many cousins and special friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Eugene N. “Gene” LaChapelle and her mother, Janine LaChapelle. The visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 14, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 11:00am at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church. Fr. Jeffrey Kurtz will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bryan LaChapelle, Jr., TJ Gaasbeck, Pete Gaasbeck, Mike Graff, Tyler Fittante, and Mark Hegstrom. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kevin Schiavo and Tony DeMuri. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
