Donna Rae Vassar

Donna Rae Vassar, 84, of Crystal Falls passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls. She passed away peacefully with family by her side. Donna was born August 10, 1938, in Crystal Falls, daughter of the late Peter and Gladys (Kotke) Benda,Sr. A lifelong resident of the area, she graduated from Crystal Falls High School, Class of 56, and was an inspector at Coleman Products in Iron River for 11 years and a waitress at Fob’s Restaurant for over 20 years. She was an active member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Crystal Falls, a member of the women's circle and in her younger years was a Sunday school teacher and member of the church choir. Donna also participated in bible study for many years. Donna was an avid reader who enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, going to the casino, and attending concerts with her sisters. Donna loved her family dearly and devoted her life to the care of her daughter, Robin. She also loved the good friends and relationships she built over the years. You were a stranger but once. Donna is survived by three daughters, Robin A. Vassar, Kelly R. Vassar (Jim Sliva), and Jackie (Herbie) Nylund, all of Crystal Falls; a son, Robert W. Vassar, Jr. (Jeanette Tinker) of Maple, WI; three sisters, Karen Pearson and Carol Maroney, both of Crystal Falls, and Jacqueline (Eddie) Wilch of Worth, IL; a sister-in-law, Judy Benda of Crystal Falls; four grandchildren, Samantha (Tyler) Fittante, Rod Alan Nylund, Misty Vassar and Brent Alimenti; two great-grandchildren, Gavin Fittante and Kenneth “K.J.” Alimenti; and several nieces and nephews, grand and great grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Peter Benda, Jr. Visitation will be held from 9:00 until 11:00 am on Saturday, November 5, at the Christ United Methodist Church with services to follow at 11:00 am at the church.
