Joanna D. Martin

Joanna D. Martin, 83 of Crystal Falls, stepped into her heavenly glory on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital in Iron River, Michigan. She was born on August 4, 1934 in Crystal Falls, Michigan, daughter of the late John and Augusta (Tesaro) Giordana. She attended the local schools, graduating from Crystal Falls High School in 1952. She was a lifelong resident of Crystal Falls. She married Robert “Bob” Martin on July 24, 1954 at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church and he preceded her in death on March 7, 2013, after nearly 59 wonderful years together. The way Joanna lived her life personified her faith and love of God and family. JoJo was a beautiful example of love and spent her life caring for and helping others. Joanna worked at Flood Supply for a short time before going to work at the Crystal Falls Community Hospital as the billing clerk. Her passion and dedication to her job was evident to all at the hospital displayed by continually going above and beyond to help. She was always willing to assist anyone in need with a helping hand or kind words. She was a lifelong and faithful member of the Guardian Angels Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild, always willing to volunteer for the funeral luncheons and anything else the church or the Guild may need. She loved to read and was an avid fan of Forest Park Girls Basketball. She enjoyed her time with her lady friends at exercise and coffee to follow. She will always be remembered as being a loyal customer of Fob’s Restaurant. Most importantly Joanna loved and cared for her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, and her great granddaughters, Molly and Claire. Joanna is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Otto) Jacob of Iron Mountain; son, Robert "Bob" Martin (Mary Robinson) of Crystal Falls; grandchildren Betsy (Casey) Hoida of Depere, Wisconsin, Buddy Jacob of Marinette, and Corey Martin of Newport, RI; great granddaughters, Molly and Claire Hoida; brothers, Jerry (Sheri) Giordana of Crystal Falls and John (Sandy) Giordana of Houghton; she is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends; and lifetime friends, Clinton and Helen Ross Besides her parents and husband, Joanna was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Woodworth. The visitation will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 am at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls. Fr. Daniel Malone will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Pallbearers will be Scott Gussert, Mason Rintala, Griffin Moore, Ethan Moore and Duke Messner. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in her memory.
